Born locally in 1982, Kathy Bartlett is a New Zealand portrait artist. She has returned in the last few years to the Wairarapa after living and studying in the capital and abroad. Having shown previously in Melbourne and Wellington, this is her first solo show in the area since 2000. FORWARD! is Kathy’s, tongue in cheek take on communist propaganda poster art, inspired by Marianne Muggeridge and the magnificent Tararuas. The show features large-scale works portraying locals in the landscape with strident, if nonsensical, messages translated from original propaganda.
